      <image:caption>A cave automatic virtual environment (better known by the acronym CAVE) is a room with projection screens as walls, where high resolution and stereoscopic projectors display realistic 3-D computer graphics, creating an immersive user experience. AIM Lab is using Intertech’s CAVE system with three front projection screens (high-contrast screens) and three Barco F50 projectors in active stereo. This system allows up to four users, wearing active 3-D glasses, at the same time in the CAVE area (the image is optimized for one person). Visualization Software : TechViz XL software acts as a driver and enables existing Windows (based on OpenGL) 3-D and 2-D applications to display on a PC cluster without any modification. The visualization happens in real-time, with no data conversion and no data loss. The visualization experience is enhanced by increasing the framerate and the quality of the computer graphics. The user is able to navigate inside the virtual environment and interact with the various 3-D models with the Wand device, giving her a fully immersive experience. Tracking : The tracking subsystem consists of 4 infra-red cameras and a controller which is connected to the computer cluster via ethernet. It can track the position and the orientation of the user inside the CAVE. This data is transferred to the computer cluster, so the user is represented correctly in the virtual environment. The tracking system is accompanied by the licenced software DTrack2 which does all necessary position/orientation calculations and through its Graphical User Interface gives the user total control of the tracking information.</image:caption>
